Eric Johnson is the Journal of Commerce’s senior editor, technology, where he leads coverage and analysis of technology’s impact on global logistics and trade. Johnson regularly reports on how shippers, carriers across all modes, and logistics companies use software, as well as new concepts impacting core freight transportation processes like procurement, execution, visibility, and payment. Johnson is a regular presenter and moderator at industry events and webinars.
Prior to joining the JOC in May 2018, Johnson spent 13 years with American Shipper in a variety of roles, most recently covering logistics technology and leading the production of a series of benchmark studies on the logistics industry. Johnson has a bachelor’s in journalism from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s in international business from the University of Leeds, UK. He has lived and worked in Southern California, the UK, and India, and now resides in the Washington, D.C., area.

Dale Rogers is the ON semiconductor professor of business at the supply chain management department at Arizona State University. He is also ASU’s director of the frontier economies logistics lab and director of the internet edge supply chain lab.
He is the principal investigator of the $15 million CARISCA project at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana and a visiting professor there. Dr. Rogers is the principal investigator on the supply chain AI-realized future funded by a consortium of firms including Intel, Applied Materials, and Chemonics International. Dale is the director of global projects for Instituto de Logística e Supply Chain (ILOS) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Dale won the Reverse Logsitics Education award from the Reverse Logsitics Association in 2023.
In 2022, Dale was selected as the CSCMP academic “giant.” He is the 2021 CSCMP Distinguished Service award winner and was also inducted into the Supply Chain Hall of Fame. In 2012 he became the first academic to receive the International Warehouse and Logistics Association Distinguished Service award in its 130-year history. Dr. Rogers is a former “rainmaker ” for the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) which is the economic development arm of Reno, Nevada.
Dale is a leading researcher in the fields of reverse logistics, sustainable supply chain management, supply chain finance and secondary markets, has published in the leading journals of the supply chain and logistics fields. He has been principal investigator on research grants from numerous organizations. He is a senior editor at the Rutgers Business Journal, area editor at Annals of Management Science, and associate editor of the Journal of Business Logistics and the Journal of Supply Chain Management.

Dr. Rogers is an assistant professor of operations and supply chain management at Colorado State University. His primary research interests include financial impact of supply chain sustainability, emerging logistics technologies, supply chain cyber security, and other emerging purchasing and logistics issues. Dr. Rogers’s work has appeared in multiple academic journals, corporate white papers, trade publications, and conference proceedings. He is a frequent speaker at academic and practitioner-oriented conferences.
Dr. Rogers earned his B.S. and M.B.A. degrees at the University of Nevada, Reno and his PhD in supply chain management from Arizona State University. Prior to returning to academia, Dr. Rogers worked as a purchasing agent for a large hotel resort and as an operations manager for Quidsi, an Amazon subsidiary.
